Since 1986 CARE Österreich has been successfully supporting and implementing development and humanitarian assistance projects/programmes on all continents, particularly in Southern and East Africa and the Great Lakes Regions, South and South East Asia, the Middle East and South/East Europe and the CIS. Up to now CARE Österreich has secured funds for more than 360 projects, implemented in 50 countries, benefiting millions of vulnerable people.
Since 1995 CARE Österreich is effectively managing more than 90 EuropeAid and ECHO grants & service contracts. In 2017 CARE Österreich has managed a total of 84 projects in 26 countries worldwide. CARE Österreich project costs amounted to EUR 21.4 million (including yet unused earmarked funds). Of this 53.05 % was used for development cooperation and 46,95 % for emergency relief. CARE Österreich’s total revenue was EUR 29.8 million thereof 54.90 % EU public funds, 27.22 % private donations, 17.86 % domestic public funds and other institutions and 0.02 % other.
CARE Österreich is a valued partner of the European Commission Development Aid EuropeAid and the EC Humanitarian Aid ECHO, the Austrian Development Agency, various UN organizations and other development actors recognized for effective project cycle and contract management as well as high quality assurance.
In addition, on an annual basis CARE Österreich subjects itself to the Austrian NGO audit and accountability certification process, the so called „Spendengütesiegel“ which certifies that an NGO complies with a set of quality standards in the fields of acquisition and administration of donations. Since 2003 CÖ has continuously qualified for the Spendengütesiegel.
Since 2013 the audit was performed by PriceWaterhouseCoopers.
