Ethiopia: Support to Gender Mainstreaming in EU interventions’ design and implementation in the regions of Tigray and Gambella, Ethiopia – ETH946
Objective
The overall objective is to conduct a gender analysis in two regions of Ethiopia (Gambella and Tigray regional States) and to inform gender mainstreaming methods and approaches in the new EU development intervention.
Expected Outputs
- Identification of the key barriers and opportunities to achieve gender equality and empowerment (including social norms, legislative, institutional capacity, political will etc.) focusing on targeted areas in selected regions.
- Production of an updated knowledge mapping of the key actors involved in gender equality and empowerment in targeted areas.
- Production of a mapping of knowledge and information gaps e.g. sex-age disaggregated statistical information.
- Identification of possible strategies to address these gaps.
- Formulation of a number of clear tangible suggestions for mainstreaming gender and women empowerment in the areas of intervention.
- A clear assessment of where the EU Delegation can add value in achieving objectives on gender equality and empowerment, through its funded support in selected areas has been conducted.
Methodology
A mixed methods approach will involve conducting a desk review, focused group discussions and key informant interviews.
Location
Tigray and Gambella, Ethiopia
Participants
Focus group discussions will be conducted with selected married and unmarried women, married and unmarried girls, men and boys.
The following community members and groups will be represented:
In Tigray: the most vulnerable and marginalized groups, including potential migrants, migrants, returnees and IDPs, living in towns and cities.
In Gambella: local population, refugees and other displaced people living in the targeted areas selected for the analysis.
