Family Planning for Resilience Building amongst youth and women in drought prone and chronically food insecure regions of Ethiopia – ETH925

In most countries that suffer recurring crises, more than 40% of the population is under 15 years old and population growth rates are greater than 2% per year. Such rapid growth is challenging for communities and governments as it doesn’t help them to keep pace with basic social sector needs, such as building new schools and health clinics, training new educators and health care professionals, and investing the additional resources needed to expand agricultural extension services, create jobs for young people, build resilient institutions and infrastructure, and provide humanitarian assistance during crises.

Overall objective

To contribute to resilience through consolidated Family Planning (FP) practices, gender equality and decreased demographic pressure in 5 EU RESET clusters.

Specific objectives

1) Increased demand for family planning through awareness raising on demographic pressure and promotion of attitudinal changes regarding family planning and gender equality, particularly among adolescents, youth, men and women in drought prone and chronically food insecure regions;

2) Increased access to and provision of quality comprehensive Sexual Reproductive Health (SRH) services especially FP services among adolescents, youth and women through service delivery and outreach services, health systems strengthening (capacity building and technical support), monitoring and coordination, women’s socio-economic empowerment and the promotion of gender equality. 

Expected Results

ER 1.1. Increased awareness on the impact of demographic pressure on food security and livelihoods

ER 1.2. Women, youth and adolescent boys and girls are empowered to make informed SRH & FP decisions.

ER 2.1. Improved quality SRH/FP services, delivered through 25 health facilities to women, adolescents and youth.

ER 2.2. Improved multi-sector coordination to integrate SRH/FP services among all RESET partners and relevant stakeholders.

Beneficiaries

This program will include and benefit particularly vulnerable households, women and girls particularly, as well as youth and men. Moreover, we will work together with religious and clan leaders, as well as health workers and government officials.
